What Book's Up, Buttercup?

Nuts (The Hudson Valley Series, #1) by Alice Clayton

on January 29, 2016

Aw… Nuts! I just finished the hilarious book by Alice Clayton, Nuts, which is the first in the Hudson Valley Series. In this adorable contemporary romance novel we meet Roxie Callahan, a personal chef living in LA. She has several high class clients and one celebrity couple that she counts on for her income. Not only is the couple her clients, but they have also become her friends over time. When a kitchen mishap causes her to lose most of her rolodex, Roxie is trying to decide what her next move will be. Little does she know, fate already has a plan. Roxie’s earthy, hippie mother calls her with the most exciting news. She has just been selected to be on The Amazing Race, but it comes with a request. Roxie must leave her LA life and come run the family owned diner in small town Bailey Falls, NY for the entire summer. Roxie has no desire to go back home to NY, or to the life where she once again has to take care of her mother’s life. In the end, however, what choice does she really have? After consulting her celebrity friends, they all agree this could be the break she needs while she regroups.

In this book, we see Roxie develop new friendships, see her love for food and cooking, and find her with a summer fling in the form of a local farmer named Leo. There is humor throughout the book, and you will find yourself laughing out loud many times. I know I did! I listened to this book on audio, and I loved the narrator. I thought she did a wonderful job, and she really brought the book to life. Some people criticize all the details, talk about food and cooking, and descriptions, but I loved them! I am a foodie, so that was perfect for me. I loved all the detail in this book. I wanted to know everything about these characters that I could glean from the author. I fell in love with Roxie and Leo, and I know you will too. Plus, I love her description of bees, I will never look at them the same way again!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance book. There is a good amount of sex, tons of humor, and an amazing storyline. The next book in the series does not come out until this summer, and I do not know if I can wait that long! The end of Nuts gave a hint to what we will see in the second, and I cannot wait to read to learn more!

Pick this one up soon! Five Shiny Gold Stars!!!
