What Book's Up, Buttercup?

ERC Challenge ~ A book set in a country starting with the letter S (Scotland) ~ Outlander by Diana Gabaldon ~ @bookdout

I have been putting off writing this review because I was so blown away by this book I did not even know what to say! This weekend I finished Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I read along as I listened on Audible, and that was over 33 hours of listening time. Whew! I am glad and sad that this book is over. Glad because I wanted to hurry up and know what happened, but sad because I did not want it to end. I do, however, want to go and read the second book, but I have so many others to read right now that it will have to wait until after the new year.

I knew this book was going to be a time travel piece with historical references with a little romance in it. I did not realize that it was going to be a historical romance with a little time travel. There was plenty of romance to go round! In this wonderful book we meet Claire Randall a former combat nurse who is on her second honeymoon with her husband Frank Randall in the year 1945. When she approaches a type of Stonehenge in a field where she had witnessed a mysterious ceremony of sorts with her husband the morning before, she touches them and is transported in time to the year 1743. She is quickly captured by the British, but later rescued by some Scotsmen and taken prisoner. Believed to be a British spy she is guarded night and day. They soon learn that she has medical knowledge and use that to their advantage.

We also meet a young Scotsman named Jamie Fraser who has a quick wit, a kind smile, and a good heart. You will fall in love with him instantly… I know I did. Claire and Jamie become close and the two become entangled in what may potentially become a love affair that will tear her between infidelity and longing.

This was a terrific book and worth the almost 900 pages. I loved it tremendously and give it 5 shiny gold stars.
